The Stripes on the Wall

We finally decided what colors we wanted to decorate the room with. We Bought a couple of paint quaters and painters tape. It was a simple project. The most tedious part was measuring and taping to make sure the lines were straight.

There it goes the grey... Yes, more grey!

Tape goes off... It's looking good! I recommed using Frogstape instead of the blue one. It really bleeds less.

There goes the blue!

We picked up a few small shelves from Ikea, I love that wall!

It's taking shape! Little by little.

Baby's room progress

Grey walls and white crib... Not too exciting yet...i

I bought an ottoman on clearance for less than $30 at Target and plan on changing the fabric. We also bought the glider at Babies R Us, it is so comfortable! The color is called Ash and it is a dark grey. Price was $399, i did not want to spend that much so I started collecting coupons like crazy! Babies R Us takes Buy Buy Baby and Bed Bath and Beyond coupons and those are really easy to get. I also opened a credit card with them to get a 15% plus the rewards. I ended up paying half off the original price!

I can see us using the glider a lot! Great for bedtime stories...
We also bought that rug. It is from Crate and Barrel, I wish it was cozier instead of flat woven, but it is the rug I fell in love with. It looks so pretty in the room.

For our Baby's sex reveal, we took our parent out to eat and got them the cutest scratch off cards. I love them! They have this vintage feel to them.

The best part was looking at them scratching off the cards super fast, they all wanted to know first! Haha. They were super excited with the news and now they can have the cards as a keepsake.

I'm Back!

Well, my last update was months ago and we were in the middle of redoing our guest bedroom. I was done painting 3 of the walls... When I peed on a stick and got a PLUS sign!!!
So that changed everything! My husband finished painting the last wall, we had decided that no matter the sex of the baby, the light grey color would be a perfect blank canvas to start with.  Dealing with morning sickness and tiredness had left me with no energy or will to do any projects. But after 6 months, with the due date getting closer and closer we started little by little turning the guest bedroom into the baby's room.
We stopped by our favorite store: IKEA and got a Hemnes 3 drawer dresser, I will be using it as a changing table as well and the dresser is spacious enough that our kid can use it for many years to come. We also got the matching nightstand. Those were our first purchases back when we first find out.
The room was used a few times when we  had guests staying over.

We didn't touch it for months. 2 sundays ago, we went back to Ikea and got some shelves, frames, a rug and a couple of little things.
So last sunday, D started painting the 2 long shelves, we got them in the unfinished wood for 2 reasons: 1- the white ones are not real wood and 2- they were cheaper.
We used some leftover white paint we had. D is giving them a 3rd coat, so we can hang them up soon.
The big elephant in the room is the queen  size bed. We need to sell it ASAP. It's really hard to work around such a big bed! Plus, we got our crib delivered yesterday and it will stay in the box unil the bed is gone :-( I have a friend who is interested in it. I hope she takes it soon!

Last sunday, I worked on the closet. This closet had been our storage closet for the past 2 1/2 years. Pillows, blankets, all my purses, wedding dress, our childhood stuffed animals and all the clothes we couldn't fit in anymore but hope one day we will :-(
It was a tiredsome task for me, I was exhausted after 4 hours of working in it, but I'm pretty much done.

So that part wasn't that much fun, But at least I feel productive! :-) and things are moving along.

We picked up some paint quaters at Home Depot for one of the walls, you will see it once we are done with it. I can't wait. We only have sundays afternoons to work in the nursery so, it will take a while to get it all done and this sunday we have our birth class.
In the meantime, I will be posting some projects I have been doing around the house.

This is going to be a really busy week for us, so I won't be working on the guest bedroom at all :( But next week I will get a lot done :) and looking at what I've done so far makes me giddy and look forward to more changes in that room.

I love the color of the walls

This is what I have so far:

Paint colors:

Curtains I got at Ikea for $10 for 2 panels.

The nightstand I got for $20 at Marshalls. I still have to paint it. This is going to be my big pop of color.

The fabric I got at JOANNS for the headboard and pillows. I love it!

These are the knobs I bought at World Market, $1.99 each plus a 10% of your purchase. Total of $11. I would rather for the knobs to be blue, but I haven't been able to find any that I loved.

This is the dresser I bought for $25. I still have to paint it.

A Little Inspiration and a Little Shopping

First stop: Ikea. I was hoping I could find a cheap nightstand for the guest bedroom. But the cheapest one I like is $70. I did find a chair ( I didn't buy it) to makeover for the guest bedroom. But I have a very small budget so we'll see if I have any money leftover or even if it fits in the space.

Look at this cuteness:

I scored this white curtain set for the guest bedroom for $10 (for 2 panels), bot bad! I hope they look nice when hanged.

Then I Went to Anthropologie, I got this beautiful spoon holder for the kitchen, it's beautiful. It was $12. Don't you live everything in there?

Then I went to Zgallerie. Big awww!!

Sorry about the picture, I was trying to be fast. I don't what their policy is.
Then I found this Guest Book for the bathroom. The pages inside even have a space for drawing your bowel movement and describe it. It was pretty but maybe too TMI.

Then I met my friend Brienne for lunch and together we went to Joanns, World Market, Marshalls and Ross.
I told Brienne she should get these fabrics, aren't they beautiful?

I got the fabric for the Guest bed headboard! Yeah! I love it.

I found a nightstand at Marshalls that was $30 but had some scratches. The manager was so lovely and brought it down to $20! Yay! I don't love it but for the price I think it's pretty good. We'll see if I can find something else.

Have a nice weekend!

Little Organizing Project of the week

What do you do with the huge stack of old magazines with all those delicious recipes you said you'd try but you haven't gotten around to it because you don't even know where that recipe is?

This is our stack:

That is only part of it. We already recycled a bunch of them. So we went through all of the magazines and cut out the recipes that caught our eyes.
I bought a cute binder at Target for $5, used a label that I already had for the cover. By the way, the binder matches out kitchen colors (hehe), blue and gray. The labels on the inside are from the same box of labels. I'll tell you more about those labels in another post.

The Finished product:

For the pages I just used back to back labels.

Now the recipes are really easy to find and the clear sheet protectors are great because it protects the recipes from getting stains.

Hope you liked this one!

What else you got?

This weekend I got my revelation! All of the sudden I knew the colors I wanted for the guest bedroom. I got 2 different paint colors and some wall hooks at World Market ($1.99 each and I had a coupon) This is what I got so far...

I tested the wall paint yesterday and it was perfect. I went back to the room several times to see how it looked throughout the day.

Last night:

This morning:

I love the color! It's perfect for this room. It's light and crisp.

But before the painting fun begins I'll be working on the baseboards. They are looking dull. Yesterday i caulk half of the room, today I'm planning on getting the rest done. It's not as fun as painting but it adds to the finished product.

Before:

Yuck!

After:

Much better already! When I finish with the walls I plan on painting the baseboards crispy white. It's gonna be so nice!!!! I can see it!

The colors I picked are:

Behr's Dark Cobalt Blue

Both at Home Depot.

I decided to make a list. I love lists. I love to check things off.

Saving Money when you shop

This is going to be a sweet and short post. It's all about saving you some bucks while you do your next project.

Before I buy something online, I always always check these two sites: EBATES and Retailmenot.
Have you heard about them?

Basically, Retailmenot keeps all the coupon codes available out there. I've got discounts and free shipping many times thanks to this awesome website.

Ebates works differently, you open an account (really easy, don't be scare!) and then search for whatever store you want to purchase from (they have thousands of them) and then you see what percent you'll be getting back. So click on the store and it will track your purchase, It pretty cool. You don't really have to do much and you save some money, little by little, it really adds up! Yesterday I got a check for $20.27. That's for a couple of months and I already have $15 accumulated for my next one. They keep adding more sites all the time plus you get $10 every time you refer a friend.
For example, I've used it for site like: Amazon, Target, Priceline, DSW, Walmart, Overstock, Best Buy, Groupon, Fabric.com, Wayfair and Old Navy. Not bad, right?

I don't get paid to talk about these two sites, I just love them and been using them for 3 years now, so I know how they work.
If you have any questions let me know!

Dresser Be

I found the perfect size dresser for our Guest Bedroom!  A friend of mine is selling me this beauty in the rough for only $25, that's really good because my budget is only $165. I think I can do it! I can't wait to get my hands on it and paint it white and add some cool knobs to it. I see lots of potential! I will probably get it within the next 10 days. Sorry about the quality of the picture.

I don't know if you have a Hobby Lobby close to you, but they also carry lots of cool knobs and if you get them 50% they'll be around $1 to $2 each. Not bad at all! They'll  also sell them only and ship them to you. I really love the hand painted ones...

World Market also has some really nice knobs and way cheaper than the lovely Anthropologie ones.
The price tag difference is ginormous, I just wish they had a bigger selection. I will stop by their store soon...
